Summer PREP courses tackle infectious diseases, child abuse pediatrics

Chicago and Portland play host to two continuing medical education programs from PREP: PREP:ID A Comprehensive Review and Update of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and PREP:CAP An Intensive Review and Update of Child Abuse Pediatrics, respectively.

Both courses offer a thorough review for specialists preparing for certifying examinations or seeking an intensive review and update, as well as general pediatricians, family physicians and allied health professionals.

PREP:ID, sponsored by the AAP Section on Infectious Diseases and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, is July 13-18 at the Marriott Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile.

Attendees can choose from plenary lectures/question-and-answer sessions, case vignettes, current trends, case-based presentations, panel discussions and a special Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice track.

Course highlights and faculty include:

  • Congenital Infections and Neonatal Infections, with Carol J. Baker, M.D., FIDSA, FAAP;
  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections, Eye Infections, Cool Bugs and Current Trends, with Morveen S. Edwards, M.D., FIDSA, FAAP;
  • Vector-borne Illnesses, Zoonoses and Case Vignettes, with Gordon E. Schutze, M.D., FAAP;
  • Viral Hepatitis, with Robert W. Frenck Jr., M.D., FIDSA, FAAP;
  • Vaccine Issues, with Penelope H. Dennehy, M.D., FIDSA, FAAP, Bennett A. Kaye, M.D., FAAP, and Julie Morita, M.D., FAAP; and
  • Germs in the Environment: Facts and Phobias, with Meg Fisher, M.D., FAAP.

The course offers a maximum of 38.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Sponsored by the AAP Section on Child Abuse and Neglect, PREP:CAP is July 22-26 at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront.

Course highlights and faculty include:

  • A Look at the Past, Present and Future of Child Abuse Pediatrics, with Robert M. Reece, M.D., FAAP;
  • Psychological Maltreatment, with Frank W. Putnam, M.D.;
  • Forensic Evidence Collection and Interpretation in Child and Adolescent Sexual Assault, with Allan R. De Jong, M.D., FAAP;
  • Key Principles in Diagnosing and Addressing Child Neglect and Short- and Long-term Outcomes of Neglect, with Howard Dubowitz, M.D., M.S., FAAP; and
  • Drug-endangered Children and Prenatal and Perinatal Abuse, with Karen J. Farst, M.D., FAAP.

The course offers a maximum of 29 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
