Mark summer’s end with Practical Pediatrics in Chicago

Practical Pediatrics courses highlight current issues in pediatrics and combine lectures, interactive seminars and question-and-answer sessions on problems encountered in daily practice.

Attendees can choose one concurrent seminar each day in the subspecialty of their choice. Concurrent session highlights include:

• Brachial Plexus Birth Palsy: Diagnosis, Prognosis and Treatment Options, with Michelle A. James, M.D., FAAOS, FAAP, clinical professor of orthopedic surgery, University of California-Davis, Sacramento;
  
• Infectious Disease Cases in Children: Diagnostic and Management Challenges, with Sheldon Kaplan, M.D., FIDSA, FAAP, professor and vice chair for clinical affairs, Baylor College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics, Houston;
  
• Where Do Asthma Gadgets Fit in the Overall Management of Asthma Today? with Dennis R. Ownby, M.D., FAAAI, FACAAI, FAAP, professor of pediatrics and internal medicine at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta;
  
• The War on Obesity: Practical Approaches to the Child with Severe Obesity and Comorbidities, with Daniel L. Preud’Homme, M.D., CNS, associate professor of pediatrics at University of South Alabama, Mobile;
  
• Office Dermatology, with Sharon Raimer, M.D., professor and chair, University of Texas Medical Branch Department of Dermatology, Galveston, Texas; and
  
• Autism in the Office, with Alison Schonwald, M.D., FAAP, instructor in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, Boston.
  

General session highlights include:

• When Does Coughing Deserve More than Reassurance? with Dr. Ownby;
  
• Treatment of Common Skin Infections and Infestations of Children, with Dr. Raimer;
  
• Sleep Problems: What to Do When Nothing Works, with Dr. Schonwald;
