The Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) Annual Meeting, May 3-6, 2008, at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, offers a plethora of pediatric research and a gathering of the four sponsoring societies — the American Pediatric Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, the Ambulatory Pediatric Association and the Academy. In addition, the meeting will be held in conjunction with the Asian Society for Pediatric Research, encouraging participation from international alliances and investigators.
Approaching its third year as a partner in the PAS Annual Meeting, the Academy understands the importance of participation in the only globally encompassing pediatric research meeting with an expected 6,500 attendees, 1,000 of whom will be from Asia.
"It is critical that pediatricians remain up-to-date and aware of recent developments and new advancements as well as what is coming in the future of pediatrics," said AAP Executive Director/CEO Errol R. Alden, M.D., FAAP.
William Keenan, M.D., FAAP, 2008 PAS program chair, said the meeting's main goals are to "expand and strengthen alliances with other pediatric societies, promote development of pediatric science and further augment the efforts in policy development affecting research in children so their care becomes even brighter."
The four-day meeting will feature the latest clinical and basic research findings, education, state-of-the-art reviews and networking opportunities, meeting the needs of subspecialists, generalists and community-based pediatricians.
A dynamic session will be held on the first day in which the presidents of all four U.S. sponsoring societies will address the critical public policy issues that face today's children. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions, articulate expectations of the societies and address proposed solutions.
Highlights of plenary, topic symposia, mini courses and hot topic sessions include:
Several pediatric society and club meetings and co-sponsored programs also will be held during the PAS meeting. Annual meetings may require a separate registration fee. Club meetings in conjunction with the PAS Annual Meeting will focus on particular areas of child health research and are open to all PAS registrants.
