1 Residency Review Committee
The residency review process for programs in pediatrics recently has been the target of much debate, to put it mildly. Much of the debate, questions and even malignment might be tempered if the process of accrediting programs were better understood. To that end, the following is a brief description of that process. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACCGME) jointly sponsored by the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the AMA, the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Council of Medical Specialty Societies is responsible for evaluating and accrediting residency programs in graduate medical education in accordance with established standards and mechanisms designed to ensure that acceptable graduate medical education is provided in the various medical specialties.
