AAP supports PMRC efforts in principle

To increase awareness of sexually explicit and violent lyrics available to child consumers, the Academy has clarified its position to support, in principle, the efforts of the Parents' Music Resource Center (PMRC).

The PMRC was formed in May 1985 by a group of Washington women who expressed concern that some lyrics in records and cassette tapes marketed to pre-teens and adolescents were inappropriate for this age group. The National PTA joined in a coalition with the PMRC.
