Help available for physicians

If you want more information about or need assitance to cope with physician impairment, here are a few organizations that can help.

• American Medical Association, Department of Substance Abuse, 535 N. Dearborn St., Chicago, IL 60610; (312) 645-5079.

• Each state medical society operates some type of impaired physician program or referral service that can direct you to local programs for physicians and others who are alcoholics and drug addicts. In addition, some county medical societies and state speciality societies operate similar programs and referral services.
