National effort targets problem of preteen alcoholism

AAP media spokespersons are participating in a nation wide campaign this month to discourage alcohol use among preteens.

Working with local newspapers, television stations and radio stations, AAP spokespersons are alerting the public to the problem of preteen alcoholism in conjunction with a nationwide effort. Sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and supported by the Academy, the "Be Smart! Don't Start!" campaign is aimed at 8 to 12-year-olds as well as adult who influence preteens' attitudes.
