New definiton, classification for AIDS expected

With physicians claiming that the prevalence of pediatric AIDS is higher than reported, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is expected to announce a revised definition of AIDS and a new classification of pediatric AIDS late this spring.

The changes will be more inclusive and will "help physicians better understand the spectrum of the illness," said James Curran, M.D., head of the CDC AIDS branch.
