Industry self-regulation first step in reducing TV violence

Violence has become such a powerful ratings tool that no network wants to be the first to slow its use.

That should be of more than passing interest to parents, broadcasters, the medical community and policy-makers because television no longer is just a reflection of our larger society; real life increasingly imitates the powerful images we see on television.

By now many researchers and four federal commissions have reported on the link between violence on television and aggressive behavior in children.
