The AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases has issued a policy statement on health guidelines for HIV-infected children in day care settings. While the Committee on Infectious Diseases previously issued a statement on HIV-infected children in school, the committee saw it necessary to publish a statement specifically dealing with the preschool child. There are several reasons why preschool children have a higher incidence of transmitting communicable diseases than older children and adolescents, the committee explained in its statement published in the March 1987 Pediatrics.
