Program for disabled infants needs members' involvement

The Academy is urging state chapters and individual pediatricians to participate in the development of comprehensive, statewide early intervention services to disabled infants.

This call for action is in response to legislation President Reagan signed into law on Oct. 8, 1986. Education of the Handicapped Act Amendments of 1986, P.L. 99-457, creates a new program of state comprehensive services for disabled infants.

The federal program is designed to assist states in developing a system of early intervention services for disabled newborns.
