There is a pediatric clinic in Winston-Salem, N. Carolina, that doesn't have a waiting room, or doorways along corridors leading to exam rooms. It does have numbered doors along the outside surrounded by diagonal parking spaces, a la Holiday Inn. It also has a drive-up pay window, lending new meaning to the name "doc-in-a-box." Henry W. Johnson, M.D., FAAP, and his associates discovered "drive-in pediatrics" 12 years ago because they were lucky, Dr. Johnson says.
