Infant mortality, adolescent health, day care and AIDS are the priority issues facing the Academy, 1987-88 AAP President Richard Narkewicz, M.D., said in his inaugural address. Pediatricians are in a good position to make progress on each of these issues, he added. "Our opportunities to expand our role as leaders have never been better," he said, noting the recent establishment of the U.S. Bureau of Maternal and Child Health and Resource Development.
