A breakthrough in the treatment of Kawasaki Syndrome, an acute childhood illness of unknown cause, was announced last month by Stanford T. Shulman, M.D., FAAP, at Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago. Dr. Shulman announced that, when administered early in treatment, high-dose intravenous gamma globulin is safe and effective in reducing the incidence of coronary artery abnormalities, which sometimes occur as a result of Kawasaki Syndrome.
