Amendments polish vaccine injury bill, boost odds of passage

Trying to fine tune its proposed bill to establish a National Childhood Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, the Academy recently endorsed two amendments that preserve the bill's objectives while improving the bill's political viability.

One amendment, drafted by Sen. Robert Stafford (R.-Vt.), would require vaccine injury victims and their families to first file for compensation through a national program before deciding whether to seek damages in court.
