New AAP task force to develop strategies for fair reimbursement

The Academy has convened a Task Force on Reimbursement in response to AAP members' concerns regarding increasing problems with reimbursement from Medicaid and private insurers.

As evidenced by the results of the AAP Medicaid Reimbursement Survey, compensation for pediatric services in many parts of the country often is considerably lower than that for services provided by physicians who see adult patients. The task force will develop strategies for immediate implementation to assure fair reimbursement for primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists in public and private insurance programs.

Robert Squires Jr., M.D., FAAP, a pediatric gastroenterologist, will chair the task force. Dr. Squires is vice president of the AAP Texas Chapter and a member of the AAP RBRVS Project Advisory Committee.
