Academy joins call for universal coverage

The Academy has joined with six other physician groups to call on Congress and all presidential candidates to make universal health insurance coverage a priority issue. The group, called the Physician's Work Group on Universal Coverage, released a joint statement at a June 14 press conference in Washington, D.C.

"Too many of America's children and their families face a financial barrier when they need health care," said AAP President Joel J. Alpert, M.D, FAAP. "We need to hear how national leaders propose insuring all Americans, including children and adolescents."
