Wanted: Praying editor

Ross S. Olson M.D., FAAP1

1 Minneapolis, Minn.

On page 4 of the AAP News June issue, a picture of students gathered at the funeral of a school-shooting victim are said to be comforting one another. Actually, to anyone who has the vaguest familiarity with religious practices, it is clear that they are praying.

Perhaps you simply copied the caption from the source, or maybe you were conscientiously trying to help the students avoid a lawsuit by the ACLU or PAW (People for the American Way). But more likely, familiarity with this aspect of life is uncommon enough for the error to go unnoticed.

Perhaps a bit of affirmative action is warranted. You could hire a person who prays.
