"The home life is typically one of parental absence or neglect. Emotional nurturing is nearly nonexistent. The parents of a pathological gambler are likely to have been addicted to alcohol and/or gambling and are likely to be abusive. Because this cluster of family characteristics is becoming more common in American families, more children are at risk for developing addictive behaviors such as gambling."
