Manufacturers working on mercury-free vaccines: Academy: Thimerosal no reason to stop immunizing

While manufacturers work to produce mercury-free vaccines, the Academy is calling on pediatricians to reassure parents vaccines are safe and that immunizing their children is vital.

"We know that there's a substantial risk if we stop vaccinating," said Jon Abramson, M.D., FAAP, chair of the AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases. "We think that risk by far outweighs the very small risk, if any, of the mercury that's in some of the vaccines."
