If you have been concerned about enrolling some of your patients in the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) due to immigration laws, the Clinton Administration has clarified the rules pertaining to immigrant children and SCHIP enrollment. Immigrant parents should no longer be afraid to enroll their children in the program. Until now, many parents have had fears of deportation, green card refusals or repayment requirements for using Medicaid or SCHIP benefits. The government's new standard clarifies that those practices are illegal, and penalties cannot be leveled against those using these benefits. So let parents know that they can enroll every eligible child in SCHIP because all chidren deserve a healthy future.
