Three new subspecialties secure formal ABMS recognition

Three new subspecialties - developmental-behavioral pediatrics, neurodevelopmental disabilities and pediatric rehabilitation medicine — have been formally recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

ABMS approved the three applications for new subspecialties in March, based on evidence they differ substantially from existing specialties.

The drive for the developmental-behavioral pediatrics subspecialty was initiated by the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and brought to ABMS by the American Board of Pediatrics.
