Lidocaine-epinephrine-tetracaine (LET) gel is an effective alternative to LET solution to anesthetize a child's face or scalp before suturing an uncomplicated laceration, according to a Minnesota study of 194 children. Since topical anesthetic solutions may drain out of a wound and could contaminate mucous membranes and ocular surfaces, the authors asserted a gel form would be preferred. They conducted a prospective, single-blinded, randomized controlled clinical trial to compare the adequacy and efficacy of LET solution and gel.
