Procedural sedation and analgesia was performed safely by pediatric emergency physicians, according to the first large-scale study of all regimens used by this group of nonanesthesiologists. The safety of children sedated by nonanesthesiologists has become a concern, the researchers noted. However, previous studies that identified adverse events have not differentiated among nonanesthesiologists using procedural sedation and analgesia (i.e., dentists, emergency physicians, family practitioners, gastroenterologists, pediatricians and radiologists).
