Accuracy of metal detectors

A handheld metal detector is an accurate tool to locate metallic objects swallowed by children, according to investigators in Texas and Virginia.

Researchers in two emergency departments compared the results of radiography and metal detector scanning of 176 patients ages 6 months to 15 years who had swallowed or were suspected of swallowing a metallic object.
