Pediatricians' role in kids' emotional, intellectual development 'important'

In light of the demands on our society today and what we increasingly know about the development of children, the role of pediatricians to facilitate emotional and intellectual development through interaction with patients and their families has become increasingly important, said U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley at the 1999 AAP Annual Meeting.
