FAAPs named to federal advisory board

Donna Shalala, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary, in October named seven new members, including two AAP members, to the National Advisory Council for Health Care Policy, Research and Evaluation.

James Perrin, M.D., FAAP, is the director of general pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and is past chair of the AAP Section on Children with Disabilities. Donald M. Berwick, M.D., FAAP, is the president of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in Boston.

The National Advisory Council for Health Care Policy, Research and Evaluation provides advice and recommendations to the HHS secretary and the administrator of the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) on priorities for a national health services research agenda.
