Lesser known, subtle health risks can be precursors of adolescent suicide attempts. Therefore, pediatricians must consider more than the classic symptoms of depression and psychological problems, a Massachusetts study suggested. Researchers analyzed Youth Risk Behavior Survey data from anonymous English and Spanish questionnaires given to 3,054 students, grades 9 through 12. Questions focused on students' suicide attempts and risk behaviors. Results showed 9.4 percent of subjects reported trying to commit suicide. Those who had attempted suicide in the past 12 months were more likely to have participated in the following risk behaviors:
