Regulations at a glance

Marjorie Tharp

At press time, two federal agencies were expected to release AAP-supported regulations this summer on air quality and air bag deactivation.

By late July, the Environmental Protection Agency was going to unveil final rules to reduce ozone and particulate matter in the air that could cause disease in children and aggravate respiratory conditions. Congress has 60 days after the release to review the rules, which have been controversial. Industry lobbyists have opposed the rules as costing too much to implement versus the health benefits derived from them. The Academy will continue lobbying in favor of the regulations.
