Fathers seem to know less than mothers about childhood illness symptoms. But both could benefit from a pediatrician's help, a British survey showed. Subjects were 109 parents 28 males and 79 females who brought their children to the emergency room. While waiting, they answered a survey of true or false statements, such as "Children with measles get a red spotty rash on the face and the body." On the questionnaire, males' mean score was 68 percent correct, females' mean score was 74 percent correct, and those under age 30 had significantly lower scores than 30- to 39-year-olds.
