Students who fight or use drugs or alcohol are more likely to carry weapons to school than victimized or fearful students, a high school survey showed. Researchers questioned 3,054 randomly selected high school students in Massachusetts to examine risk behaviors associated with carrying weapons to school. Questions focused on frequency of carrying guns, fighting, and fearing for safety while at school over the previous 30 days. Results showed more than 10 percent of students reported carrying a weapon on school property, and close to half carried a weapon six or more days. Prevalence of weapon-carrying was 15 percent among males and 5 percent among females.
