Pediatricians' advice crucial to ensure success: Immunization registries emerging as fact of practice life

Immunization registries are central to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) goal to increase childhood immunization levels.

President Clinton, encouraged by the nation's surpassing 1996 childhood immunization goals for critical vaccines, recently asked Donna Shalala, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary, to convene a meeting of federal, state and local government officials, health care providers and organizations, vaccine manufacturers, information system specialists and civic leaders to investigate the challenges of erecting integrated immunization registries to meet state and community needs.
