The tragedy of the alleged one-man AIDS epidemic reported by public health officials in western New York is that all the infections could have been prevented, warned the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "Heterosexual HIV transmission is not mysterious," the CDC said in a public response to the Chatauqua County case. Pediatricians and other public health practitioners, parents, and educators must discuss how to prevent HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) with each upcoming wave of young people, the CDC stressed.
