Outgoing leader urges sharper AAP focus on critical issues

Robert E. Hannemann M.D., FAAP1

1 President, American Academy of Pediatrics

Dear Colleagues:

This is my last letter to the membership as AAP president. Throughout the year I've addressed the importance of promoting the value of pediatric care and the pediatric profession. I am happy to announce that we at the Academy are not the only ones who recognize those values.

CBS Radio has elected to produce and broadcast a daily radio program, hosted by an AAP member. The program, called "A Minute for Kids," will be distributed to CBS' 268 affiliate stations nationwide. As of this month, this children's health and safety update will air twice daily, Monday through Friday, reaching millions of people.

CBS knows that its listeners will appreciate and respond to messages from the foremost authorities on children's health. Our participation in this program will help us to further promote the value of our profession. I am gratified that this collaboration began during my term.
