Costs of parental smoking

Parental smoking results in children's medical costs of $4.6 billion a year and loss-of-life costs of $8.2 billion, Wisconsin researchers stated.

Using data from previous U.S. studies, researchers estimated the number of cases and annual costs of passive smoking-related pediatric illnesses, such as low birth weight, otitis media, respiratory syncytial bronchiolitis, sudden infant death syndrome and asthma.
