Despite adverse side effects such as nausea, dizziness and arm pain, nicotine patch therapy appears to be safe for use in adolescent smokers, according to researchers at the Mayo Clinic. Subjects included 22 adolescent smokers, ages 13 to 17, with a smoking rate of 20 or more cigarettes per day. Subjects attended one of five public high schools in the Rochester, Minn., area and had been smoking for at least one year.
