Coalition petitions for tobacco regulation

The Academy and 75 national organizations launched a petition drive urging that the federal government regulate tobacco products.

"We are conducting this petition drive, in part, because we believe that the Congress of the United States, the president and policymakers throughout the country, must be put on notice that Americans are sick and tired of the tobacco industry's billion-dollar advertising and promotional campaign designed to entice children to smoke," Scott Ballin, chairman of the steering committee for the Coalition on Smoking OR Health, said.
