Sexually active, adolescent females from low-income backgrounds are much more likely to acquire sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) than adult women and therefore are more likely to have STDs when they become pregnant, according to a recent report in Clinical Pediatrics. In a study conducted at a primary pediatric care clinic (PPCC) in Milwaukee, researchers followed 168 pregnant adolescents of low socioeconomic status from their original pregnancy diagnosis until their first prenatal clinic visit.
