Although any fracture in a child younger than 3 years suggests abuse, other factors must be taken into account before making a determination, according to a study in a recent issue of the American Journal of Diseases in Children. Five major indicators of abuse-related fractures emerged from the study of 253 fractures in 215 children younger than 3 years, 24.2 percent of which were judged as abused. The indications are:
