Recent reports in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) (December 16, 1993) and a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) (December 1993) describe circumstances in which Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection was transmitted within a household setting absent evidence of sexual contact or needle sharing.
