Academy taking `naive' approach to health care reform

William F. Terry M.D., FAAP1

1 Knoxville, TN

I am very dismayed by the letter from Dr. Pearson and the article regarding the Academy's stand on the Clinton health care reform (AAP News, October 1993). It is not at all clear that Dr. Pearson or other members of the Academy hierarchy who are quoted have given serious consideration to the other alternatives being discussed. His idea that we have an "inside position" is naive in that I am sure there are hundreds of other special interest groups including labor unions, trial lawyers, etc., who also feel that they have such an "inside position."
