An insider's view: "city at a crossroads"

Where in the world can a pediatrician look out of his downtown office window and capture an almost simultaneous view of the historic, the ultra-modern and a tinge of small-town Mexican color?

To the east is evidence of a progressive, rapidly growing city with its copper and silver-glassed skyscrapers, new hotels, and renovated shops. The lazy river weaves amongst the buildings while the Alamo stands in the background as a proud witness of time. To the south is the historic El Mercado, colorfully alive with street vendors, taco.
