Raw milk debate leads to lawsuits

While the popularity of raw milk as a reputed "health food" has grown in recent years, health officials have denounced the product, claiming that hazards associated with raw milk consumption far outweigh any professed benefits.

The issue has been debated in local newspaper articles, national television news broadcasts and congressional committee hearings. Now, the debate is headed for the courtroom.

Two lawsuits seeking a total of $220 million in damages have been filed by Alta-Dena Certified Dairy, the largest U.S. producer of certified raw milk, against the Academy and John Bolton, M.D., FAAP.
