CHAPTER NEWSLINE

Malpractice survey

Approximately 0 percent of the pediatricians responding to a recent AAP Michigan Chapter survey said a malpractice suit has been filed against them during the past five years. About 35 percent said they have been threatened with malpractice suits that were never filed.

Six hundred questionnaires were mailed to pediatricians throughout the state in March. Some 115 responses were received, explained Alternate Chapter Chairman Stanford A. Singer, M.D., FAAP.

Of the 48 respondents who said a malpractice suit has been filed against them during the past five years, 35 said one suit has been filed against them, nine said two suits had been filed and four said three suits had been filed.
