A pediatric resident came bustling out of a hospital room, red in the face, and said, "Do you know what that child said to me? She told me to wash my hands...I think this might work." The resident was referring to the T. Bear "Handwashing Prevents Infection" program, a national public awareness project aimed at reducing the number of hospital-acquired infections. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the program encourages children to remind medical and nursing staff that "T. Bear says to wash your hands."
