Health officials in Los Angeles County, Calif., have traced the causes of two recent cases of lead poisoning to folk medicines used by various ethnic groups. The folk medicines generally are applied topically to treat symptoms of gastrointestinal illness or used for cosmetic purposes, reports Arthur Lisbin, M.D., FAAP, director of Child and Adolescent Health of the county Department of Health Services.
