California Chapter 1 spurs interest in drunk driving program

Some 250 pediatricians, students, parents, educators and other community leaders gathered last month in Oakland, Calif., to discuss ways to reduce adolescent injuries and deaths caused in drunk driving accidents.

The April 19 meeting was sponsored by California Chapter 1 and stemmed from two years of work conducted by the chapter Youth Committee. The committee, headed by Catherine Mc Donald, M.D., FAAP, has been exploring motor vehicle safety issues such as the relationship between accidents and driver instruction courses, seat belt use and night driving.
