Jacobi Award presented to sickle cell disease fighter

Roland B. Scott, M.D., FAAP, was awarded the 1985 Abraham Jacobi Award at the Spring Meeting for his pioneering work in sickle cell disease research.

"The earlier pessimistic attitude in reference to sickle cell disease has changed to a prospect of hopeful optimism," the 75-year-old pediatrician said in receiving the award. "Victims of the disease can look to such positive achievements as better informed doctors, availability of early diagnosis, development of newer methods of treatment and improvement in educational and counseling programs."
