Progress uneven in meeting health objectives: Mason

Speaking at the opening plenary session of the Spring Meeting, James Mason, M.D., noted that progress is uneven in the fulfillment of five preventive health goals outlined in a 1979 U.S. Surgeon General report.

The report, titled Healthy People, outlined goals to be met by 1990.

"We are now halfway through the target decade," he said in his keynote address. Dr. Mason is acting assistant secretary for health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and director of the Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta.
