Expert warns colleagues to beware of employees who embezzle

Practice management expert Ralph Cash, M.D., FAAP, has something to tell one of every five physicians: a trusted employee in your office is embezzling. And that employee could be stealing thousands of dollars each year.

"Many employees look on physicians as easy marks because many physicians don't pay close attention to the business end of their practice," Dr. Cash told AAP News in a telephone interview.

Since the late 1970s, Dr. Cash and his wife, an attorney, have conducted practice management courses at Children's Hospital of Michigan. The Detroit pediatrician has joined Florida colleague Edward J. Saltzman, M.D., FAAP, in conducting similar courses at Academy Annual Meetings.
